Downgrade and cancellation
How to reduce your domain count, switch billing cycles, or cancel your DomainCare subscription and what happens to your data.
Downgrade and cancellation
Reducing your domain count
Reducing your domain count is a downgrade. DomainCare does not automatically remove domains when you lower your quantity — you choose which domains to delete.
How to reduce your domain count:
- Go to Settings → Billing.
- Click Change plan and enter a lower domain count in the picker.
- DomainCare checks whether your active domain count exceeds the new quantity.
- If it does, a domain checklist appears. Select the domains you want to remove.
- Confirm deletion. Once your active count is at or below the new quantity, the subscription updates on Stripe.
- The lower rate takes effect at the start of your next billing cycle. Monthly decreases are not prorated.
Deleted domains are kept for a 30-day grace period (for undo), after which all history is permanently purged.
Switching from annual to monthly
Contact support at hello@domaincare.io to switch from annual to monthly billing mid-cycle. Annual-to-monthly switches take effect at the next renewal date.
Monthly-to-annual switches can be made at any time from Settings → Billing. Stripe charges the prorated difference for the annual price over the remaining days in your current monthly cycle.
Cancelling your subscription
To cancel:
- Go to Settings → Billing.
- Click Manage billing — this opens the Stripe Customer Portal.
- In the Stripe portal, click Cancel subscription.
- Your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period.
- At the end of the period, checks pause. Your data is retained.
You can resubscribe at any time from Settings → Billing. There is no second trial — cancellation takes you straight to a paid checkout.
What happens after cancellation
| What | What happens |
|---|---|
| Domains | Preserved — no data is deleted |
| Check history | Preserved |
| Scheduled checks | Paused immediately at period end |
| Notification channels | Preserved |
| Alerts | No new alerts fire while checks are paused |
Resubscribing
Go to Settings → Billing, pick your domain count, and complete checkout. Checks resume for all domains up to your new quantity. If you had more domains than your new quantity, the excess stay paused until you either increase your quantity or delete them.
Data deletion
DomainCare does not auto-delete your account or data on cancellation. If you want your data deleted, email hello@domaincare.io and request account deletion. We will delete your account and all associated data within 30 days.
Common questions
Can I get a refund? Contact support at hello@domaincare.io. Refunds are handled case by case.
What happens to an annual plan if I cancel early? Your subscription stays active until the annual period ends. There is no prorated refund for unused months on annual plans unless arranged with support.
Will I lose my check history if I cancel? No. Check history is preserved for the lifetime of your account, regardless of subscription status.
Can I pause my subscription instead of cancelling? DomainCare does not offer a subscription pause. Cancelling stops billing while preserving your data — the effect is the same as a pause, just without an explicit resume date.
